The Bahamas Writer:

The same is true of another local library, housed downtown in Nassau’s old “jail” with steep twisting steps to upper floors.

On Long Island, in the Southern Bahamas, residents and supporters raised money to build a handsome museum and library.  The last time I visited the island, peeping through the windows into the closed building, I could only see a few museum artifacts, but book donations have been promised.

9. Internet:-

To source the internet, you don’t have to be a computer “whiz” but you do need a little time.  The web can open up a whole new world of information for you.  See the section “The Internet”.

10. Writers’ Groups:-

I am not normally a “joiner” of groups or organizations (I think most writers like their own company anyway), but for motivation and information (as well as fellowship if you wish) I highly recommend you look for a good writers’ group.  The feedback and markets shared in these groups are invaluable.

11. Writers’ Workshops:-

I’ve always wanted to attend a Writers’ Workshop, but as far as I know, they aren’t held in the Bahamas and my annual vacations overseas are always committed to family travel.  One day I’d like to hold my own Writers’ Workshops in the Bahamas.  A tranquil Out Island would be the perfect location – sun, sea and soft breezes.  Of course, my preference would be Long Island, Southern Bahamas, where my husband Erskine was born and bred.  He could go fishing while I soak myself in plot and poetry!

A writers’ workshop retreat that looks inviting is The Maui Writers Conference, held annually in Hawaii  - see Section 2:the book “Word by Word” by John Tullius & Elizabeth Engstrom and the presenters of the Maui Writers Conference (Writers House Books)

Writers’ Workshops are often advertised in the Classified sections of writers’ magazines or listed in articles on the subject.

Online workshops can be found at http://www.writersonlineworkshops.com

12. Writers’ Courses:-

While our sons were young, I took a Short Story Writing Course by correspondence, and in 1994 completed a Writer’s Digest Novel Writing Course, also by mail.

The material provided with these courses can be a continuing source of information.
