Thanks, Gavin, I was conned along with a lot of other people it seems. I should have seen the warning signs - I knew it couldn't be right that they were charging me to publish my poem, but I was duped by their lavish words of praise! I should have smelt a rat when I read some of the other poetry on the site - much of it is a load of rubbish. Now I know why! I certainly shan't be submitting anything else to them!

Hi Hazel,
It is one of the ways they are making money. However a book with your poetry may be a nice thing to have.
Did you receive your poetry book?

Hello,
A friend of mine submitted a poem to "poetry.con" and was asked to hand over money. She told me about it and I thiught you shouldn't have to pay money out , they should be paying you!
Anyway she got a beautiful book with her poem in it! If that's what you want, ok.
Regards,
Barbara

I wonder if Hazel ever received her book? Hazel - perhaps you can let us know if you did and what you thought of it?
Barbara makes a good point, that at least her friend has the pleasure of seeing her poem in a nicely bound book.
On the other hand, Bahamian poet Obediah Smith told me that he once had a poem published in such a book, but he felt it was no credit to him, as many of the other poems also featured in the book were (in his opinion) not at all good.
I submitted a poem to Poetry.com (before I knew about the Writers' Weekly's warning) and had the same opportunity to have it published in one of their books (at a price!).
However, it didn't stop there. I received continual email, telling me that I had "won" awards (I would have to pay for the "shipping" of course), informing me that I was invited to be honoured at presentations in the U.S. (more cost), and so on and so on.
Every email was so tempting, I can understand how aspiring writers can be taken in by all this.
